Combat Training Centre

The Combat Training Centre (CTC) uses state-of-the-art technologies to enhance soldier and leadership training.  These range in complexity from the simulation systems to individual vehicle and weapon simulators.

The schools of the Combat Training Centre conduct over 600 course serials and host, on average, between 15,000 and 19,000 Regular and Reserve Force students annually.

The Combat Training Centre, a formation of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre, is headquartered at 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown in Oromocto, NB, and is comprised of eight schools and two units:

  • Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School,
  • Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School,
  • Infantry School,
  • Tactics School,
  • Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering,
  • Canadian Army Trials and Evaluation Unit,
  • Combat Training Centre Headquarters,
  • Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre (Trenton, ON),
  • Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School (Borden, ON), and
  • Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (Kingston, ON).

More than 2000 Regular Force members, Primary Reservists and civilian employees contribute to making the Combat Training Centre a true learning organization, providing relevant, credible, realistic, demanding, and safe training that meets the needs of the Canadian Armed Forces.

CTC Mission

To support Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) readiness and modernization through the conduct of CAF and Canadian Army individual training, the preservation of individual training standards, and the maintenance of assigned “centre of excellence” responsibilities.

Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School (RCACS)

The mission of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School is to support CAF, the Canadian Army and armoured corps readiness and modernization through the conduct of individual training, the preservation of individual training standards, and the maintenance of assigned responsibilities.

Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School (RCAS)

The mission of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School is to plan, deliver, sustain and evaluate artillery individual training as well as related individual maintenance training, while performing associated responsibilities in order to support the Field Force's operational requirements.

Infantry School

The Infantry School’s mission is to deliver high quality, relevant training to all land operations officers, infantry leaders, and specialized training for infantry/combat arms leaders, in order to prepare them to lead Canadian soldiers in land operations including combat.

Tactics School

The Tactics School will support the training and education of Canadian Army and other CAF personnel through the provision of formal courses, learning support, counter improvised explosive devices and other expertise.

Canadian Army Trials and Evaluation Unit (CATEU)

The Canadian Army Trials and Evaluation Unit mission is to provide specialized land force trial expertise and unique trial support capabilities for the Canadian Army and other CAF agencies, by conducting impartial trials and evaluations on new and modified equipment to ensure that the soldiers' operational concerns and recommendations are represented.

Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre (CAAWC)

Located at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario, the mission of the Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre is to support the generation and deployment of combat forces through the training and support of CAF personnel, for employment in complex land environments and unique joint operations, while providing CAF parachute depot services.

Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME)

The Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering provides engineer individual training and expertise in order to set an enduring foundation for the Canadian military engineers to assist friendly troops to live, move and fight across the full spectrum of CAF operations.

Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School (RCEMES)

Located at CFB Borden, Ontario, the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School mission is to train electrical and mechanical engineering technicians and officers as well as designated military and civilian personnel for the CAF by designing, directing, and conducting leading edge training on the maintenance of CAF land equipment.

Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE)

Located at CFB Kingston, Ontario, the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics will train and educate officers and non-commissioned members in the art, science and tactics of conducting network operations in the electromagnetic battle space, in order to support the generation of land based communication and information system capabilities for domestic and expeditionary joint forces.
